Part of my 65 by 65 list, was doing a 90 day fitness challenge and I didn't post anything on it too much while I was doing it but I am really pleased with the results. It may not seem like a whole lot because I haven't lost a whole lot of weight however I feel so much better. I was walking on a regular basis. I really didn't go to the gym at all because my focus has been for the Camino and making sure that I have the stamina to go day after day, 28 km.
With my 90 day challenge I lost about 15 pounds. I know that normally you can lose two pounds a week so I could have lost 24 pounds but I was really happy with the 15. I also increased my ability to walk long distances and not feel it. When I first started walking long distances, I would be very tired the next day and I would be be somewhat sore. I could feel all my muscles. The other day my mom and I walked for coffee and it was 7.5 km on the way there and on the way back, I walked part way home with her as well and then back to my place. The thing that amazed me was that I was not tired and I was not sore. It was like a walk in the park and that made me feel really, really good. So I do have a little more confidence about my ability to complete the Camino.
Another thing I did was, some friends and I went to to the Sea to Sky retreat in Whistler. This is quite a mountainous area. We were going on walks through bush and I was ahead of the pack all the time. I could hear people behind me puffing and I was comfortable. It was a breeze, so I'm feeling really good about that.
The first day in the Pyrenees, although I expect it to be difficult, I'm not quite as frightened as I was. When I started reading some of the books about the Camino, some of the people kept saying, "I just about quit the first day. I thought I was was going to die!" And I thought, "Oh my God, am I going to be able to do this. Am I really kidding myself?" Anyway, so this is very, very good.
The 90 day challenge worked out great for me and I'm feeling good. I am getting really close to being at my high school weight which I think is very cool. I still have a few more pounds for that but I suspect that will drop-off when I walk the Camino.
