"The Making of The Art of a Woman Exhibit Unveiled at the Bau-Xi Gallery on Granville"
The Art of a Woman
Diane's Lingerie boutique owner Sharon Hayes, in the process of rebranding her store, decided to create an event that would also benefit the The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation BC Yukon. Some of Vancouver's most prominent women were invited to create the art by having body paint applied and imprinting it on canvas. Anonymity was guaranteed. The resulting pieces were auctioned off with the proceeds going to the cancer society.
Invited to attend The Art of a Woman unveiling by my friend Raj from Pink Chai Living, I was unsure of what to expect. The art and the venue were beautiful. It seems there were a number of generous benefactors who supplied the delicious h'ordeuvres and beverages. The appies were abundantly prepared and served by Luke's Corner Bar and Kitchen. The original featured cocktail for the evening was "Lingerie and Lace", skillfully prepared by award winning bartender, David Wolowidnyk @drinkfixer of the West Restaurant with the beverages sponsored by Empreinte. empreinte.eu/
Our society reveres "thin" however the images that were the most stunning were those of fuller figured women. The video above shows the creation of the canvases. One woman, who had been invited to participate in creating an image of her own, told me she was uncertain about the production of the art and so she declined. Upon viewing the finished pieces, she expressed regret for missing out on the experience.
